And again there are no words. Words exist that can, used by a poet, achieve a dim monochrome of the body’s love, but beyond that they fail clumsily. My love flowed out to her, hers back to me. Mine stroked and soothed. Hers caressed. The distance – and the difference – between us dwindled and vanished. We could meet, mingle, and blend. Neither one of us existed any more; for a time there was a single being that was both. There was escape from the solitary cell; a brief symbiosis, sharing all the word.

John Wyndham

We need each other to be our best selves. We are more together than we are as individuals. I know that according to many it isn’t supposed to be that way. I am the dom and she is the sub. I am meant to be the one in charge and in control and she is meant to do as she is told. There is some truth to that but it doesn’t begin to encompass all that we are.

She sent me a book “Me without you” and it is just right. It is cute and silly and delightful. D/s is those things too. It is more than just the vision that many have of the suit clad dom and the naked sub kneeling. It has to be more it has to be that joining of two (at least for me YMMV) into a symbiosis of love and what we each need. We don’t need the same thing but we do both need someone to give us what we need, what we crave, what is true to us.

The pain, the pleasure, the love, the fun. The sharing of joy and sadness and being there for each other no matter the circumstances. We can exist separately and we should. Not being able to be independent and strive for our own goals would be stifling and oppressive and certainly not healthy. But even when we do those things apart we can still maintain our symbiosis by supporting each other in all thing. Giving each other some space and a break to allow each of us the room to do what we need. Even when that might mean stepping back from our d/s roles.

She is always part of me, no matter the circumstance and her well being and happiness is just as important as mine. Taking a beat to find our footing when things get tough is easier when we do it together. Having faith that we will always support each other no matter what is what makes us symbiotic.

We are not one being. We are two who have come together to be more that what we are apart.
